what is Simplicity?

Sim-plic- i-ty: the quality of being easy to understand,
uncomplicated, clear, enjoyable, pure.

The name “Simplicity” was birthed from the thought that following Jesus should be basic and uncomplicated. This does not mean easy or effortless, but with clarity and without confusion.

The following are two examples of this found in the bible:

Micah 6:6-8
6  With what shall I come before the LORD
and bow down before the exalted God?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
    with calves a year old?
7  Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousand rivers of olive oil?
Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8  He has shown you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To do justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly [a] with your God.

During the time that this verse was written, people were asking the same question that many are inquiring even today; “What do I need to do to please God?” The men and women back then answered this question from a ”burdensome” viewpoint, concluding that perhaps they
needed to earn God’s approval or pleasure by bringing Him material objects or “sacrifices,” but God’s response was much less complicated than a list of “to do’s” and material favors. His answer was simply for them to live with a sense of right and wrong (do justly); treat others with loyal love and kindness (love mercy); and realize the great need to depend on a loving God and not themselves (walk humbly) in order to accomplish this or anything else in life.

Similarly, the following verse shows Jesus’ tender invitation to those who were being taught complicated lists of unrealistic rules and regulations in order to keep God happy.

Matthew 11:28-29
28  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

In other words, just come to me, let’s build a relationship together and I will gently guide you, strengthen you, be your friend and give you rest (peace).

At Simplicity, we want to be a body of believers that “simply” come!
